Project Overview

The Maribyrnong Civic Precinct and Community Hub redevelopment has transformed the historic Footscray Town Hall site into a modern civic and community facility, blending heritage architecture with contemporary design and functionality. Originally constructed in 1936 to replace the original 1875 Town Hall and Courthouse on Napier Street, the heritage-listed Footscray Town Hall remains the focal point of the redevelopment.

The project involved demolition of the existing Civic Office and Community Wellbeing buildings and construction of a new two-storey Civic Office and Community Building, designed for future expansion and targeting a 6 Star Green Star sustainability rating.

Our scope included the installation of a high-performance raised access flooring system throughout the new office and community spaces, incorporating a seismic-rated design to meet the project's structural and compliance requirements. The access floor system was designed to support underfloor air distribution, electrical and data services, while also creating sealed subfloor plenums for the building's underfloor air conditioning system.

Extensive air leakage testing was carried out to verify plenum performance and integrity, ensuring all penetrations and perimeter interfaces achieved the required air pressure, efficiency and long-term operational standards.
